I am looking for information on my Grandma's side of the family. So far getting a blank. My grandmothers name is Bertha Gladys STRACHAN (have always been told pronounced Strawn) she was born in 1907 in Tofield, Alberta, Canada, her father is John Wesley STRACHAN, but found another record that said John Warren STRACHAN, a border crossing manifest indicates he is an American citizen, going to live at Great Falls Montana, in 1910, but he died in Sheridan, Wyoming, in 1912. Have not found any other info on him. Can't find a marriage certificate but the manifest did say he was born in Kingston, Ontario in 1863. Confusing since he said he was American. If anyone has any info to share I would love to hear from you. Thanks so much

Silas Nathan Chase served in the Union Army during the civil War and reportedly marched with
General Sherman. (Family has photo in uniform). He was a fine figure of a man, young and
handsome. Silas Nathan Chase was killed by lighting and is buried in the Radford Cemetery,
Deepwater Twp, MO.
Wife #2, Sarah Dulcena White is buried at Graceland Park Cemetery, Sioux City, Woodbury
Co., IA and was the sister of Martha Custus WHITE CHASE (researcher's great
grandmother).
Martha Custus WHITE was the daughter of John Wesley WHITE and Nancy Ann GEORGE.
She married James William "Will" CHASE at the age of 18. They farmed in Missouri for 10
years and on 14 Mar 1899, they started from Butler, Bates Co., MO in a covered wagon, with
3 horses, 3 children and $300. They drove to a barren spot on the prairie in what is now
northern Woodward Co., OK with 2 other families by the name of Chritsinger (sic). One of the
men's father was already living near Wynola she he led the wway. At that time, Okahoma was
still in Indian Territory and had not become a state. This area was then known as the
Cherokee Strip. The "official" land rush had not begun, and therefore the family became
known as "Sooners." The claim was established by the family on 10 May 1899 with a
borrowed tent, no water, no wood and had to burn cow chips to cook with. Will Chase filed
next to the adjoining claim of his brother, George Evan CHASE and his wife, Ellen
CARROLL. Martha Custus WHITE was the last known survivor of the early Oklahoma
Pioneers and died 9 days away from her 101st birthday in 1972. Martha Custus WHITE

iv. Gerty Chase, b. 6 Nov. 1885 in MO; d. 9 Sep 1886 in infancy.
DESCENDANTS of these families still live in and near Ralston, OK and over various parts of
the State of OK, TX and the Carolinas.
Researcher resides near Dallas, Texas and is always in search of more Chase/White
connections. Many thanks to Bonnie for helping me make the Strawn connection many years
ago after having hit a stone wall with James Chase and Mary Strawn. The only clue I ever had
was that which was written by my great grandmother, Martha Custus White Chase who
recalled the name of Mary Strawn and the city of Tipton, IA where "the old man" reportedly
died. That was one of the happiest days in my genealogical searches. Thank you
again!

2. Nancy Jane – 1850
3. William Ervin (Erwin) – 1852

5. George Washington – December 21, 1857
James then divorced Lucinda and married Celia Ann Spencer and they had 4 children.

James then divorced Celia in 1875. James’ third wife was Martha P. Carlton. They had

I am trying to determine whether Edmond STRAWN, aka STRONG, was a Strong who
morphed into a Strawn or a Strawn from the get go. Per census records, he was born 1815-1820 in TN. His wife was named Mary. In the 1850 census for Lincoln Co., TN, he appears as a Strong, although in earlier tax lists he is a Strawn. The enumerator for the 1850 census may have gotten his name confused with my neighboring Strong family. But, it is interesting that he moved from elsewhere in the county to right next door to the Strong family in 1849, which is when John Strong died. In the 1860 census for Lincoln Co., TN, he appears as Stron. In the 1870 census for Franklin Co., TN, he appears as Strawn. His children used the Strawn name. Can you identify Edmond Strawn?

Martha d. 1895 in DeKalb or Cherokee Co., AL and is buried in an unmarked grave at Sand Rock Cemetery in Sand Rock, Cherokee, AL. My g/grandmother Mattie Janie MCKINNEY BURT was unable to identify the site of her mother's grave in her later years as the grave yard had changed so much. Janie was 11 when her mother died.
